Assess Salmonids in the Asotin Creek Watershed, BPA Project # 2002-053-00.
Project Goal:  Assess the status of anadromous salmonid populations in the Asotin Creek watershed.  Estimate the abundance, productivity, survival rates, and temporal and spatial distribution of steelhead/rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) and Chinook salmon (O. tshawytscha).
Executive Summary:  The fundamental aspects of the project are adult enumeration and smolt emigration estimation, including statistical estimates of bounds for estimates.  Data from the Asotin Creek assessment project will document population status and change over time as required under RPA 180.
Objective 1:  Document juvenile steelhead life history patterns, survival rate and smolt production in the Asotin Creek watershed above George Creek.
Objective 2:  Estimate escapement of hatchery and wild steelhead and salmon into the Asotin Creek watershed above George Creek; and measure adult trap fallback and adult trap efficiency.
Objective 3: Estimate spawner abundance and adults per redd.
Objective 4: Genetics sampling.
Objective 5:  Deliverables.  Annual report: Abstract, introduction, description, methods, results, discussion, summary, and expenditures.
Location of Project:  Asotin Creek and its tributaries above George Creek, starting at river kilometer 4.9, in Asotin County, Washington.
