Contract Description:
This project is a component of the Hood River Production Project (HRPP), which collects broodstock, and monitors escapement of returning adult salmonids in the Hood River. Additionally, staff from this project provide overall guidance for the implementation of the HRPP. Following the removal of Powerdale Dam on the Hood River and the associated fish trap, it was necessary to construct, install, and operate seasonal fish traps and weirs on the mainstem Hood River, Neal Creek, and the West Fork Hood River. The ODFW will be responsible for conducting all phases of the trap operation. These traps will be used to collect winter steelhead and spring Chinook broodstock, and monitor escapement, and gather life history information, of all upstream migratory fish encountered at the traps. Operation of the these traps requires close coordination with several other BPA funded projects associated with the Hood River Production Project (HRPP). In addition, several other BPA funded projects rely on data and fish collected from these traps to accomplish their project objectives (1988-053-04, 1988-053-03, 1988-053-07, 2003-054-00). The overall implementation of the HRPP is jointly managed by the ODFW and Confederated Tribes of the Warm Springs Reservation of Oregon (CTWS).
