Contract History:

This project began in 2007 and became part of the Nez Perce Tribe Fisheries Watershed Department’s Habitat Restoration program.  In 2007 and 2008, the Nez Perce Tribe (NPT) and Nez Perce National Forest (NPNF) worked collaboratively to complete stream crossing assessments and the associated culvert replacement prioritization in the Slate Creek Watershed.  Since 2009, the Nez Perce Tribe and Nez Perce Clearwater National Forests have worked collaboratively to implement high priority culvert replacements within the Slate Creek Watershed (#3246, #2981, #3135, #3136, Basin Creek, Burn Creek, & Victor Creek).   All culvert replacement projects have included riparian planting post implementation and until 2014, had undergone monitoring in accordance with our Nez Perce Tribe Culvert Replacement monitoring protocol.

This project will continue to operate under a Partnership Agreement between the Nez Perce Tribe and the Nez Perce - Clearwater National Forests.  The Nez Perce - Clearwater National Forests contributes approximately 20% of project costs in both cash and in kind for environmental compliance, contract preparation, administration, and technical oversight.  


FY 2016 Contract Implementation:

Implementation under the 2016 contract will include the installation of two trail bridges on mainstem Little Slate Creek and Van Buren Creek (currently stream ford crossings).
