Contract Description:
The Logan Valley was purchased in April 2000 to compensate, in part, for the loss of fish and wildlife resources in the
Columbia and Snake River Basins. The project allows the Tribe to manage 1,760 acres of meadow, wetland, and
sagebrush steppe habitats within the headwaters of the Malheur River. The property includes significant stretches of
Big and Lake Creeks and hosts key habitat for bull trout. The project is also benefiting other populations of fish, wildlife,
and plant species. General objectives include reviving and improving critical habitat for fish and wildlife populations,
controlling/ eradicating weed populations, improving water quality, and preserving cultural resources.

In 2025, this contract will allow the Burns Paiute Tribe to conduct the following management activities: complying with
cultural resource and ESA requirements, improving existing vegetation communities, identifying and controlling noxious
weeds, performing riparian plantings, maintenance activities, providing access, monitoring vegetation and wildlife, and
education/coordination with tribal, government and general public parties.

PLACEHOLDER (pending grant proposal acceptance): We will plan to do baseline site assessments and inventories
along Lake Creek and/or other biologically important waterways, streams, and creeks to inform restoration planning,
particularly targeted at the installation of beaver dam analogs and conducting new plantings. We plan to conduct EC
consultation for potential plantings as needed in the future.
