# NEW INFORMATION FOR ADD-ON PORTION OF CONTRACT

Riparian restoration work will  be accomplished in other portions of the Entiat River as a result of outreach and landowner communication.  These work elements (Landowner outreach and riparian restoration) will be funded through the Add-On portion of this contract.  While the outreach will begin as early as March 1, 2010 the actual restoration work will take place in the fall of 2010.  Currently five restoration sites have been identified where work will take place.  The specifics of this work is captured in the Scope of Work.

Landowner outreach to explain the value of healthy riparian areas will be conducted watershed wide via newsletters, direct mailings and attending community events (Earth Day) as well as one-on-one communication taking place in person and on the phone.  This work will result in landowner agreements being secured with the landowners of the five sites where planting will take place and likely lead to additional sites.  We will also work with school groups to educate them on the functions of riparian areas and to allow them to assist in some planting at the sites.

This portion of the project consists of utilizing excess material germinated for the Tillicum and Indian Creek riparian restoration projects and planting them in other areas (Stillwaters, Confluence and RM 6).  Noxious weed removal will be conducted at these sites via hand pulling but no fencing will be constructed as no grazing takes place at these sites.  Sprinkler systems will be installed at two of the five sites (RM 6 and Confluence) to help ensure plant survival and success.

Continued project coordination, management and reporting will be done during the Add-On activities so that we remain in compliance with the contract requirements.

The description below the dotted line summarizes all work contracted for prior to the above mentioned add-on work.

Tillicum Creek Fence Project

The Tillicum Creek Fence project is in the third year of implementation.  This phase of the project consists of germinating the seeds collected from local native riparian vegetation in an area green house to be planted in Fall 2010 in the riparian areas of Indian and Tillicum Creeks.  Noxious weed removal will also be conducted in this phase of the project.  Removal of noxious and unwanted vegetation will be done by hand in the areas to be planted and in the fenced in enclosure areas built for livestock.  Hand pulled noxious weeds will be taken off site to be disposed of.  Also included in this phase is the monitoring of the fence effectiveness of keeping livestock (sheep) in the temporary holding areas.  If it is determined through monitoring that sheep are escaping the holding areas then the fence will be upgraded/altered/additional construction to prevent sheep escaping.  The off loading areas where the sheep are taken off and loaded onto the transport vehicle will be upgraded and improved to eliminate erosion and improve safety.  Finally, water sources will be designed and constructed/installed in the fenced in temporary holding areas to allow livestock watering since they will no longer be able to access the adjacent streams.  These watering facilities consist of water troughs that are filled by hoses and pumps using the local streams.  Two sprinkler systems will be installed at the Indian Creek and Tillicum Creek planting areas to provide water and increase planting success.

Finally, continued project coordination/management and reporting will take place during the length of this contract so that we remain in compliance with the contract.
