Contracted funds will be used by the  CTWSRO Branch of Natural Resources,  Hood River Production Program to:

Conduct monitoring and evaluation of the existing spring Chinook salmon and winter steelhead re-introduction / supplementation programs. Activities include determining pre-release smolt quality, out migration timing, duration and residualism. 10% of hatchery releases will be fitted with PIT tags.  Spring Chinook spawning locations, timing and success will be monitored. Juvenile distribution salmonid surveys will be conducted. Run size predictions, harvest recommendations and tribal harvest monitoring will be implemented during FY 12.

Water quality monitoring in Rogers Creek and water temperature monitoring throughout the Hood River basin will continue.

Existing HRPP M&E data will be geo-spatially  linked and uploaded to tribal and regional databases.

FY 12 funds from this project will be used to implement the comparative hatchery spring Chinook release group evaluation and begin an winter steelhead residualism investigation.  NOAA fisheries staff will be contracted by BPA to conduct the final year of data collection for the 3 year smolt physiology study. Results from this investigation will assist with determination of long term spring Chinook smolt production strategy.

With funds provided from this project USGS Cook lab will be contracted by BPA to re-construct, maintain and operate and, if possible, determine the detection efficiency of a channel spanning PIT detector installed near the mouth of the Hood River. The results will be used to adjust estimates of out migrating juveniles and returning HOR and NOR adults.
