Contract Description:
This contract was initiated on July 1, 1984 under the BPA contract and allows for initial landowner contacts, agreement development, project design, budgeting, and implementation for anadromous fish habitat improvement on privately owned lands within the John Day Basin.  

The purpose of the John Day Fish Habitat Enhancement Program is to enhance production of indigenous wild stocks of spring chinook and summer steelhead within the sub basin through habitat protection, enhancement and fish passage improvements.

In work period 3-1-2006 thru 2-28-2007 the fish habitat program will accomplish approximately 12.5 miles of riparian fence, coodination with 5 landowners (Gary Engle, John Habberstad, Steve Ussery, Doug Leach, and Bill Mascall).  There will be constructed 1.50 miles on Cottonwood Creek/Engle property tributary to the North Fork of the John Day River, 3.50 miles on 8 mile Creek/Ussery and Leach property tributary of the Middle Fork of the John Day River, 3.50 miles on Cottonwood Creek /Mascall property tributary to the Mainstem of the John Day River, and 4.00 miles on Gilmore and straight Creeks/Habberstad property tributary of the North Fork of the John Day River, riparian fence will be built.  There will be 2 off-site water developments on Cottonwood Creek/Mascall property and 1 off-site water development on Cottonwood Creek/Habberstad property.  There will be approximately 25 gates and 7 watergaps constructed on the four project sites.  On Mountain Creek/Jones property the juniper rip-rap placement will involve placement of juniper on 14 sites and cover approximately 72 feet per site, 0.20 miles of bank protection.
