Contract Description:
Klickitat River Design and Construction

The Yakama Nation will be making major modifications to several existing fish facilities located on the Klickitat River in Washington State. The facilities include the Lyle and Castle Falls fish ways, located at rivermiles 2.2 and 60.7 respectively, All facilities are located on State of Washington and Yakama Nation lands in Klickitat and Yakima Counties and are operated by the Yakama Nation.

Among the modifications called for at the facilities is the incorporation of full duplex passive integrated transponder (PIT) tag interrogation systems. At this time the Yakama Nation is requesting that Pacific States Marine Fisheries Commission (PSMFC) be part of the facility PIT-tag design and installation team being assembled by Harbor Consulting Engineers. Harbor Consulting Engineers is the primary engineering firm tasked with overall project development and implementation. The PIT-tag design team task is to design PIT tag interrogation systems capable of interrogating adult salmonids and trout at the Lyle and Castle Falls fishways. Finally, we ask that once the PIT-tag interrogation systems are installed that PSMFC take over the maintenance, operation, and data transfer of the systems.

Pacific States Marine Fisheries Commission (PSMFC) has entered into an agreement with the Yakama Nation to purchase the necessary items for the computer platforms and PIT tag related equipment at Lyle Falls and Castile Falls on the Klickitat River.  These items are outlined in the budget that may be found in the attachments section.

This contract is complete once the equipment is installed, since the operations and maintenance of the equipment is not part of this contract.  These administrative and installation costs are covered under the Columbia Basin Pit Tag Information Project, 1990-080-00.  A copy of the  PSMFC/YN work agreement is attached in Pisces.
