The CTUIR Walla Walla River Basin Fish Habitat Enhancement Project, initiated in 1996, is an ongoing effort to monitor, protect, enhance, and restore the natural form and function of rivers, floodplains, and native fish habitat. Restoration project location and selection criteria is derived from various managerial guidance documents and based upon identification and addressing factors limiting salmonid production. The Project is responsible for improving physical habitat conditions for ESA-Listed salmonid species.  

Major tasks to be completed by the project in this funding cycle include:  

2018 Project Focus and Deliverable Summary;

1 South Fork Walla Walla River Hutchison Project Final Designs, Imp Plan, Staking, Implementation, Oversight:                                                                             Restoration in Chinook Salmon and Bull Trout priority reach based on designs initiated in FY17. Restoring proper riverine function and process via reinvigoration of the floodplain and instream complexity.
              
2 Walla Walla River Nursery Bridge Project Phase 2 Final & Phase 3 30% designs, Imp & Mon. Plans, Staking, Oversight, As-Built, Implementation Plan:               FY 18 restoration activities focus upon reducing annual, long-term riverbed/channel disturbance and dysfunction to improve passage conditions at Eastside Ditch and fishway infrastructure based on FY 17 designs.

3              North Fork Walla Walla River Confluence Final Design:                                                                                                                                                                  Develop designs for priority reach established for ESA-Listed salmonid species. Project involves reactivating floodplain, improving passage and complexity, and restoring river into historic channel.

4              North Fork Touchet River RM 1, Warren Project, Design Completion                                                                                                                                             Advance designs that were initiated in FY 17 and take to completion. Implement phase of project if permitting entities and process is successfully navigated. Use of grant dollars expected to fund implementation in FY 19.    

5              NF Touchet River RM 3, Wolf Fork Project Final Design Development                                                                                                                                           Advance designs that were initiated in FY 17 to completion stage. Formulate implementation plan in preparation for FY19 implementation.  

6              Couse Creek Final Design Development. Provide technical review and input throughout design process                                                                                       Partnership with Lead sponsor, WWBWC to work on a collaborative approach to improve passage, increase stream length and complexity, reduce erosion and negative impacts at the confluence with the Walla River.
