Title:
H: 157 - Spring Chinook salmon run forecast and harvest creel
Description:
Forecast the 2009 returns of spring Chinook to the Hood River to determine if numbers are adequate to allow a tribal/sport fishery in the Hood River subbasin. If numbers are sufficient for a fishery, coordinate season with ODFW and Tribal Council. Estimate tribal harvest of spring Chinook above Powerdale Dam using creel surveys. Collect, extract, and read coded wire tags from harvested fish to evaluate run timing and movement of spring Chinook through the Hood River subbasin. Report coded wire tag information to ODFW.
WE Agreement Type:
Contracted
Deliverable Specification:
Estimate of tribal harvest of BY 09 spring Chinook salmon in the Hood River subbasin. Determine tribal exploitation rate, effort and satisfaction with fishery.

Data and summaries will be in the annual reports and available by request.

A EC Environmental compliance requirements complete 10/1/2008 12/26/2008 Concluded Christopher Brun (Inactive) 8/5/2008 3:03:28 PM
Description: On-the-ground work associated with this work element cannot proceed until this milestone is complete. Milestone is complete when final documentation is received from BPA environmental compliance staff (completion can be based on pre-existing environmental documentation from BPA).
B Predict the number of spring Chinook to return to the Hood River 1/1/2009 2/15/2009 Concluded Sarah Branum (Inactive) 8/12/2008 4:51:09 PM
Description: Use available models to estimate the number of BY 2009 spring Chinook salmon to return to the Hood River basin. Run estimates will be evaluated to meet escapement and broodstock needs to determine if sufficient surplus is available for harvest. Results will be evaluated by co-mangers to determine whether or not to open a tribal / sport fishery.
C Coordinate fishery co-managers. 2/16/2009 4/15/2009 Concluded Sarah Branum (Inactive) 8/12/2008 4:51:09 PM
Description: If sufficient numbers of fish are predicted to be available for harvest, coordinate tribal and sport harvest season and bag limits with ODFW. Obtain Tribal Council resolution for harvest after review by tribal Fish and Wildlife Committee.
D Monitor tribal harvest of spring Chinook salmon. 5/15/2009 7/31/2009 Concluded Christopher Brun (Inactive) 7/29/2008 3:01:24 PM
Description: Conduct a statistically valid creel survey to estimate tribal spring Chinook harvest at Punchbowl falls and at other locations. Creel data will be used to estimate fisher effort and catch. Biological data will be collected and snouts from fish containing CWT will be requested. Fishers will be surveyed to determine degree of satisfaction with fishery.
E DELIV Estimate of tribal harvest of spring Chinook in Hood River 9/30/2009 Concluded Christopher Brun (Inactive) 8/5/2008 2:50:46 PM
Description: Estimate of tribal harvest of BY 09 spring Chinook salmon in the Hood River subbasin. Determine tribal exploitation rate, effort and satisfaction with fishery. Data and summaries will be in the annual reports and available by request.
