The CTWSRO Hood River Production Program staff will conduct monitoring and evaluation of the existing spring Chinook salmon supplementation program. Activities include determining pre-release smolt quality, out migration timing, duration and residualism. Adult spawning locations, timing and success will be monitored. Run size predictions, harvest recommendations and tribal harvest monitoring will be implemented during FY 09. Project staff will assist ODFW with monitoring of summer/winter steelhead supplementation activities by PIT tagging a portion of pre-release smolts and post-spawning kelts. Cumulative project data will be synthesized and results analyzed.  Funds from this project will be used to support ODFW M&E efforts that are essential to completion of HRPP tasks, specifically staffing fall migrant trap operation and replacing worn equipment.

Additionally the CTWSR HRPP will plan for future M&E activities in light of the removal of Powerdale dam in 2010 and completion of the revised HRPP Master Plan. This will include: refining the M&E plan identified in the revised master plan and updated HGMP; determining  best methods for natural-origin return (NOR) pre-smolt abundance/distribution monitoring and determining adult run timing of spring Chinook salmon and winter steelhead past planned trapping sites.
