Contract Description:
The Yankee Fork Restoration Project contract for 2011 will continue to capture baseline water quality data within the Yankee Fork Salmon River drainage. This includes using long term deployment of multi-parameter water quality monitors (Sondes) at five sites: Flat Rock, Bonanza Bridge, Jordan Creek Bridge, Custer Bridge and West Fork Yankee Fork to collect continuous water quality measures including: ph, conductivity, temperature, turbidity, and dissolved oxygen. Data collection begins March and continues through November, and is dependent upon the stream conditions and storm events.  Temperature data will continue to be collected on the Yankee Fork and references reaches within the Upper Salmon River Basin.  The project installs air and water thermal data loggers beginning in March and retrieves them in November as conditions permit.  Within the mainstem Yankee Fork, the project will be collecting data throughout the year, commencing in February 2011 and continuing through January 2012. Additionally, the project will continue to collect discharges measurements and stage readings (manually and digitally, with the use of pressure transducers).  The pressure transducers will gather continuous water levels throughout the field season. For the 2011 season, there will be additional installation sites for these devices on, upper, mid and lower Yankee Fork locations, including the West Fork Yankee Fork and Jordan Creek tributaries. The project will continue to complete Rosgen surveying at each of our sites on the YFSR and references reaches.  This methodology of data collection will assist us to understand how the undisturbed system is functioning and quantified results can be applied to YFSR impacted reaches.  To assist with monitoring the flows throughout the hydrologic cycle on the Yankee Fork Salmon River, the project will contract with USGS to install a permanent gauging station in the lower portion of the drainage.  This process will begin with a sub-contract, site location, necessary permits required for installation, and implementation and future maintenance of gauging station.
Additionally, the project will begin a narrative to complete other restoration actions within the Yankee Fork Salmon River, outside the dredge sections.  The project is currently working with the private landowners to acquire an agreement, but this may take some time to accomplish. Consequently the project is looking to complete other implementation actions throughout the YFSR. This narrative will be submitted to and approved by the ISRP prior to any implementation efforts.
