There are 3 major types of Project relationships:

1. Contextual relationships – projects that share the same type of work or focus (e.g., Lamprey Program)

2. Dependency relationships (Depends On/Enables) – projects that have some kind of dependency between them for related work or budget (prerequisite sequencing, different kinds of work funded in different projects such as enhancement versus RM&E)

3. Hereditary relationships (Merged/Split) – projects that were consolidated or divided for scope or budget reasons.

The first type can be accommodated via tagging – e.g., simply tag each of the projects in the lamprey program with "Lamprey". The latter two types should be explicitly supported via RELATIONSHIPS defined and managed here. Note that is possible for a project to have both a dependency and hereditary relationship (e.g., an O&M project that was split out from a larger project).

The Effective Date may be a future date or a date in the past. It marks the point in time in which the relationship began.

Provide a detailed summary of the nature of the project relationship. For example, if you are documenting an "Enables" relationship it would be important to document in what ways this project enables the other, or which of its work elements support the other project.
