Title:
F: 183 - Evaluate the new PIT tag model (TX1400SST)
Description:
DA has been working on improving their tag technology in order to increase their chances of detecting tagged fish transiting the huge antenna needed for the corner-collector detection system. They are currently producing an interim tag model (TX1400SGL) and will be ready in late fall to release the final tag model (TX1400SST). Before this tag can be used by the fisheries community, the PIT-Tag Steering Committee requires that the tag pass a number of tests. The proposed budget covers the costs for running the necessary laboratory tests.

It is possible that BPA may request that tags from other manufacturers also be evaluated for use in evaluating the corner collector. These tags might be evaluated with either the current set of tests or with a shorter list of tests. The current budget does not include the time it would take to perform these tests or if necessary the time to develop alternative tests since the emphasis would be on the large corner collector antenna.

A Run the new tag through a subset of tests proscribed by PTSC 12/7/2005 1/15/2006 Concluded Sandra Downing 2/27/2006 1:03:21 PM
Description: In 2005, NMFS completed a document that outlines a series of tests to be used by the fisheries community for evaluating perspective tags. The new tag model would need to pass those tests before it could be used by the fisheries community within the Columbia River Basin. However, Digital Angel can only initially provide pre-production tags before they modify their equipment to produce the new tags. BPA has requested that NMFS and PSMFC conduct a subset of tests to determine whether the new tag model looks promising enough to support DA's modifying their equipment.
B Write up a report on the results from the preliminary tests 1/15/2006 1/31/2006 Concluded 12/6/2005 7:02:51 AM
Description: A progress report will be submitted to PTSC and BPA on the results of the preliminary tests.
C Run production SST tags through a full set of tests 2/1/2006 9/30/2006 Concluded 12/6/2005 7:02:51 AM
Description: If the preliminary tests support Digital Angel modifying their manufacturing equipment, then in the spring they will submit production tags to BPA and the PTSC for a full evaluation.
D Analyze the data and write a report on the results from the full set of tests 4/1/2006 9/30/2006 Concluded 12/6/2005 7:02:51 AM
Description: The results from the full set of tests will need to be analyzed and then written up.
E DELIV Report on the evaluations of the SST tag model 9/30/2006 Concluded Sandra Downing 2/27/2006 1:03:22 PM
Description: A report will be submitted to BPA and PTSC on the results of the evaluation of the SST tag model.
