Title:

P: 162 - Rapid Response Genotyping for Selecting Hatchery Broodstock

Description:

Real time rapid response (RTRR) genetic assignment of Hood River steelhead completed during 2005-2009 at the Powerdale dam trapping facility. The goal was to differentiate winter from summer steelhead collected for broodstock since both races have overlapping run timing. RTRR was discontinued in 2010 when the facility was decommissioned and the summer steelhead hatchery supplementation program was suspended. The HRPP intends to use RTRR during winter steelhead brood stock collection in 2017. The results should provide genetic support for individual identifications, and increase confidence in selecting broodstock beyond what would otherwise be determined through observational interpretations such as physical characteristics and run timing. The results will verify the race of steelhead collected for the winter steelhead hatchery program. The CRITFC Hagerman Genetics Lab will be contracted to conduct the analysis of samples sent to them by ODFW trap operators. Individual results will be reported prior to spawning brood. A final summary report will also be provided.
