Title:
V: 162 - DR, FM & HR: Summarize data collected from PIT tag Arrays
Description:
Data recorded from PIT antenna arrays includes: 1) PIT tag numbers with date and time from fish that pass through the electromagnetic field, 2) marker tags, and 3) test tags. Marker tags are devices that house a HDX PIT tag that is concealed from the antenna other than timed intervals when the signal is uncovered. It is used to confirm continuous operation of antenna systems, and are incorporated into the antenna circuit. Marker tags are set to read every half hour. A gap in the detection record would indicate a failure of the reader, antenna or battery supplying reader or marker tag. Test tags are used by field crew to confirm spatial extent of the electromagnetic field. A tag is moved around within the field and a description with measurement recorded. Two databases are used to store: 1) lamprey implanted with PIT tags (date, location, tag number, fish length, weight, etc) and 2) PIT tag detection data recorded at each antenna site. PIT tags from tagged lamprey are matched with detection data to identify which individuals were detected at what location and the days between release and detection. Marker tag data (collected every 30 min.; 48 records per day) can be summarized by day and site to determine whether there were continuous operation of the antennae (should be 48 records per day). Marker tag data is important to describe potential detection efficiency. In concert with testing the spatial extent of the electromagnetic field by positioning a PIT tag in the field across the channel (25%, 50% and 75%) and measuring the maximum height of the field relative to the water stage, the spatial and temporal extent of antenna arrays can be described. For each site, the spatial and temporal extent of the field will be characterized and fish passage (detections) will be reported. In addition to lamprey tagged by CTWSRO, lamprey are tagged at Bonneville Dam and may be detected in CTWSRO antenna arrays. Lamprey migration timing and movement patterns will be documented by HDX PIT tags and antenna arrays. In addition, HDX antenna detections at Cushing Falls on Fifteenmile Creek is used for the mark-recapture estimate in Fifteenmile Creek.
WE Agreement Type:
Contracted
Deliverable Specification:
Lamprey migration timing and movement patterns in Deschutes, Fifteenmile and Hood subbasins will be documented by HDX PIT tags and antenna arrays. Antenna detections by site through the year will indicate timing of adult immigration. Time and location of PIT tag insertion (including those tagged at Bonneville Dam or other locations) and antennae detections in Deschutes, Fifteenmile and Hood subbasins will indicate patterns in adult lamprey movement.

Description: The Protocol (including temporal and spatial design) and Methods for this work element are stored at monitoringmethods.org and need to be finalized (i.e., "Published" through monitoringmethods.org), preferably prior to data collection. Preparations for contract renewals must include reviewing any previously published Protocols/Methods to ensure that they are consistent with how work will be done in any subsequent contract.
B DR: Summarize HDX Data 10/1/2017 5/15/2018 Concluded Siena Lopez-Johnston 6/28/2017 11:52:46 AM
Description: Summarize PIT tag detections and relate to initial tagging information (date, location, tag number, fish length, weight, etc). Marker tag data (collected every 30 min.; 48 records per day) will be summarized by day and site to determine whether there were continuous operation of the antennae (should be 48 records per day). Spatial extent of antenna fields will be summarized (e.g., % of cross sectional area of stream channel through time). Spatial extent of antenna field through time will be reported. Fish that were detected at multiple locations will be described. Annual adult immigration timing will be graphed and described.
