Title:
D: 157 - Collect information on habitat features associated with chum redds
Description:
Collect information to describe habitat features relative to locations of select chum salmon redds and juvenile emergence in Hardy Creek and Hamilton Springs.
WE Agreement Type:
Contracted
Deliverable Specification:
Data describing physical habitat features of chum salmon redds in Hardy Creek and Hamilton Springs will be collected. These data will include water depth, substrate type, and proximity to apparent springs or seeps. Up to three redds in each stream, for which actual spawning or substantial spawning behavior by females were observed by the field crew during surveys, will be selected for placement of piezometers. Piezometers will be placed adjacent to redds with emergence traps, and used to sample sub-surface water at depths likely encompassing that of egg pockets. Water samples will be periodically collected, and information pertaining to chum salmon emergence such as hydraulic head, dissolved oxygen, temperature, and conductivity will be recorded. During field surveys, any evidence of redd stranding of egg scour will be documented.

B Describe habitat features associated with the location of redds in Hardy Creek and Hamilton Springs 11/15/2006 8/31/2007 Concluded Jeffrey Johnson (Inactive) 9/7/2006 2:39:17 PM
Description: Habitat will be described for locations of chum salmon redds identified during spawning ground surveys, and compared to habitat at randomly selected locations not used for spawning. Habitat features include water depth, substrate composition, and redd location relative to apparent springs or seeps. Up to three redds in each stream, for which actual spawning or substantial spawning behavior by females were observed by the field crew during surveys, will be selected for placement of piezometers. Piezometers will be placed adjacent to redds, and used to sample sub-surface water at depths likely encompassing that of egg pockets. Water samples will be periodically collected, and hydraulic head, dissolved oxygen, temperature, and conductivity will be recorded.
