Title:
K: 115 - Lapwai Creek RM 10 Inventory/Analysis Project number 20-2175 - continued work
Description:
Lapwai Creek reach RM 10 to RM 11, located along main stem Lapwai Creek from Chambers Road to Lyle Gulch Road, is a one-mile reach of stream with two private landowners. This project began in the previous contract period and is a continuation of that work. The site is complex due to its location and the amount of gravel movement at the site. The work completed in the previous contract period included: stream habitat inventory and preliminary hydrology analysis. Limiting factors in this reach include elevated temperatures, lack of riparian vegetation and lack of cover, and lack of in-stream structure and complexity.

Work planned for this contract period includes the collection of channel profile and cross sections and a concept plan that will help with the development of engineered designs. Work will be completed by the NPSWCD staff and/or a subcontractor selected by the NPSWCD. The work performed will inform the design stage which will occur in future contract periods. NPSWCD will coordinate with NOAA biologists, BPA engineers, and other professionals to collect the data necessary to finalize the concept plan and prepare for the design phase in the next contract period.

Juvenile steelhead are present in this reach year round and adult steelhead are typically present in the annual spawning migration (January through April).

This reach is located in the highest geographic priority as identified in the Lapwai Creek Ecological Restoration Strategy (2009, Richardson and Rasmussen). This strategy is attached to this contract in CBFish.
