B: 157 - Chinook Salmon Spawning Ground Surveys in the mainstem
Description:
Weekly, or bi-weekly, counts of redds and adult Chinook salmon (live and dead) in the mainstem Columbia River. Chinook redds will be identified using the following criteria: adult Chinook presence and size of redd. Location in stream as well as gravel size may also be considered. The study area includes sampling locations from river mile 144.5 (Ives/Pierce Island complex) to river mile 136.0 (near Multnomah Falls area). Data collected include: a) Redd counts, b) live and dead fish counts, and c) GPS locations of spawning areas or redds. Carcasses are examined for presence of tags and marks. The field season spans two contracting periods.
WE Agreement Type:
Contracted
Deliverable Specification:
Completed fieldwork, raw data sheets, and biological samples documenting Chinook salmon spawning below Bonneville Dam (river miles 144.5 - 136.0). Data includes: a) redd counts, b) counts of live and dead Chinook salmon, c) estimates of prespawning mortality, and d) latitude and longitude of redds and spawning locations. Biological samples include scales collected for aging. Gender ratio data is also collected upon recovering carcasses.
