Title:
D: 191 - Watershed coordination, attend meetings, and communications with landowners and general public
Description:
Fish & Wildlife project lead will attend local and regional workshops, training, and conferences that relate to fish habitat improvement projects. The project lead will participate in local forums on fish habitat related projects in order to coordinate project development and watershed planning with local partners and will prepare and present results in different forums, including exchanging information with the general public to gain confidence and support of residents within the watershed. Community outreach, Fish & Wildlife open houses, and attending community events will promote understanding of water use and withdrawal issues, importance of riparian vegetation, anadromous fish biology and history and fish habitat requirements.

The project lead will attend watershed forums to coordinate our efforts with other project developers in the watershed such as the Colville Reservation Conservation District, the TAG group, and coordination with other programs within Colville Tribal departments (Environmental Trust, Okanogan Basin Monitoring & Evaluation Program (OBMEP), Omak-Nespelem Forestry, and Range) and with local government.

Efforts will be directed also toward providing information on critical resources issues, promoting conservation of natural resources, and assisting landowners through project development opportunities within the Omak Creek watershed. Water resources within the Omak Creek watershed are limited and the Fish and Wildlife department has worked toward limiting new residential developments along the creek including targeting property acquisitions (i.e. the Moomaw property) along Omak Creek. The project lead will work to develop interest, collaboration, and landowner agreements for proposed projects and will continue to work with landowners and the general public to provide educational materials and information on the project and other projects that are going on in the Omak Creek watershed and in the region.
