Title:
E: 47 - Enhance riparian vegetative components at restoration project sites
Description:
Increased channel shade, organic input, and stabilization via root mass are targeted results guiding tree planting efforts. Enhancing vegetative components with preferred tree species is a primary task associated with the WWHP. CTUIR has submitted several vegetation management outlines to BPA, USFWS, and permitting representatives to disclose action plans in regard to establishing preferred species of trees at restoration sites. Utilization of vegetative management plans has resulted in demonstrated-measurable results pre vs post project. Measured change and order of magnitude through time is an effective means of guaging project effectiveness in the riparian zone as well as stream shading component. Components of the vegetation monitoring plan include physical habitat inventories as well as various methods of utilizing visual imagery (photo points, time-lapse, aerial) to monitor and demonstrate vegetative response over time. Much emphasis will be placed on utilizing various techniques for establishing and retaining vegetation at the restoration site to promote healing by accelerating recovery to decrease the footprint of implementation and present a professionally-finished product appearance. Monitoring the success of a particular planting strategy and species identification and location shall guide supplemental plantings in the future to effectively fill voids in the riparian area towards achieving a mosaic of multi-tiered growth adjacent to the waterway.

This work element involves improving riparian optimal vegetative components at the restoration project sites, to supplement vegetation until desired level is achieved.
WE Agreement Type:
Contracted
Deliverable Specification:
Utilization of a variety of planting techniques, such as native grass seed, trenching, bare root/plugs, potted trees and whips to improve riparian and instream conditions at habitat restoration sites. Hand planting techniques in addition to mechanical means shall increase the amount of vegetation present at the site during and after construction activities. Watering and weeding activities shall improve survival of planted stock.

Accentuate optimal vegetative components at restoration site locations.

A EC Environmental compliance requirements complete 2/1/2017 3/31/2017 Concluded Tracey Yerxa (Inactive) 11/15/2016 4:06:00 PM
Description: On-the-ground work associated with this work element cannot proceed until this milestone is complete. Milestone is complete when final documentation is received from BPA environmental compliance staff.
B Final approved M & E plan 4/1/2017 6/30/2017 Concluded Tracey Yerxa (Inactive) 11/15/2016 4:06:00 PM
Description: Achieve final approval of vegetative monitoring plan from USFWS prior to implementing the plan and conduct of actions described within.
C Plant vegetation in areas of need, post-implementation 4/1/2017 10/31/2017 Concluded Tracey Yerxa (Inactive) 1/20/2017 10:20:10 AM
Description: Accelerated recovery of disturbed areas to be similar to historic vegetation in this area and reducing construction footprint would guide objectives of emphasized planting operations. Supplemental plantings to those partaken during the FY 16 period over a 47 acre parcel will be conducted. It is estimated that 7 acres need re-treatment due to summer/winter kill on planted saplings and those areas are in need of additional plantings to achieved desired riparian condition and riverine function. The additional plantings shall establish a continuous riparian belt and shall aid in the reduction of potential bank erosion due to adjusting fluvial processes on the newly created channels.
