Title:
L: 186 - Repair bridge at North Nanamkin Creek (BIA Rd 1003)
Description:
In 2016, under this project, the CCT replaced a culvert in North Nanamkin Creek (BIA Road 1003) that prohibited Redband Trout from accessing approximately 7.0 km (4.4 mi) of spawning and rearing habitat. The culvert was replaced with a 10.67 m x 4.57 m (35 ft x 15 ft) concrete precast bridge. Bridge installation was completed on October 5, 2016.

During a major flood event [possibly 200 year (2% probability)] in the spring of 2017, the North Nanamkin bridge was damaged. The footing on the east side of the North Nanamkin bridge experienced some erosion, putting the bridge at risk for further damage and eventual failure. The bridge remains in place, but an engineer from Cardno, a subcontractor of the CCT, visited the site in summer of 2017 and recommended that the bridge not be used in its current state. Designs for a replacement bridge were completed in 2017.

The existing bridge will be lifted and footings will be extended and then the bridge will be reset in place. Scour protection features will be installed to protect the bridge footings. The repaired structure will be able to accommodate the yearly stream flow fluctuations, including a 500 year flood event. The repairs will be implemented by a qualified contractor following the design plans and under the direction of the subcontracted engineer and project biologists.

In order to provide migratory redband trout access to approximately 7.0 km (4.4 mi) of spawning and rearing habitat in North Nanamkin Creek, the CCT in coordination with subcontractors, will repair a non-functioning bridge. The repaired bridge will allow for complete fish passage and will have adequate scour protection for the size of the stream.

The Contract Specialist will initiate the contracting process (negotiations, approvals, etc...) with the selected firm.

The Contract Specialist will initiate the contracting process (negotiations, approvals, etc...) with the selected firm.
