Title:
F: 162 - Map channel to determine optimal planting locations
Description:
The channel will be mapped using geomorphic and groundwater elevation data in order to determine optimal planting locations for 2007.
WE Agreement Type:
Contracted
Deliverable Specification:
All data analysis methods will be done according to research plan to be completed in May of 2006.

Channel Mapping:

This effort is intended to demonstrate geomorphic surface relationships to growing season and groundwater depth and will be accomplished with the data collected from groundwater monitoring wells. Groundwater data will be run through a process called Kriging in a GIS environment to produce a potentiametric map of the project area.

A Rosgen level II assessment (Rosgen, 1996, p. 5-2) of the channel and a map of the geomorphic surfaces of interest will be done in late May. Should be completed by mid-June as 1000 sedge plugs will be planted in mid-June. There will be 500 beaked sedge and 500 nebraska sedge plugs. They will be planted on two different geomorphic surfaces (essentially point bars below bankfull and first terrace above bankfull).

Vegetation Planting Locations:

Vegetation data/maps will be used to develop the extent and location of the planting prescription. Also, Canadian thistle data will be used to determine the extent and location of thistle management actions.
