E: 198 - Maintain Riparian Plantings at Lost-Loony Creek

Description:

CCT biologists and technicians will maintain native vegetation planted within the cattle exclusion fence unit on Lost Creek. The goal of the planting was to create a diverse native plant community that will restore ecosystem function. Maintenance activities will include routine control of competing non-native vegetation by mowing and applying herbicides and watering during dry months.

		Description: Following mowing, CCT staff possessing a valid pesticide applicators license will apply an appropriate herbicide (one that is effective for the target species and can be applied in the riparian zone) with either a backpack sprayer or with a quad equipped with a boom-style sprayer. The applicator will determine the correct rate of application based on the herbicide to be applied and the application equipment to be used. Herbicide application will occur monthly from April through October or as needed.

		Description: CCT staff will water all plantings at the site. Water will be sprayed directly on the plant, as well as at the base to provide water to the roots. Plants in the Toe and Bank zones will be watered once every 20 days from May through September at a rate of 3.8 L/min/plant (1.0 gallon/min/plant). The minimum volume of water applied will be 1.9 L/plant (0.5 gallons). Plants in the Overbank, Transitional, and Upland zones will be watered once every 10 days from May through October at a rate of 3.8 L/min/plant (1.0 gallon/min/plant). The minimum volume of water applied will be 1.9 L/plant (0.5 gallons).
