A | Estimate adult abundance using two methods | 10/15/2006 | 5/28/2007 | Concluded | Jeffrey Johnson (Inactive) | 6/29/2006 4:02:51 PM
Description: Estimates of abundance for adult chum salmon will be calculated using an "area-under-the-curve" method and a mark and recapture method using carcasses. For the "area-under-the-curve" method, fish counts will be used with estimates of stream residency to calculate an abundance estimate of adults. For the mark and recapture method, carcasses marked with a plastic tag that are encountered in subsequent surveys will be considered recaptures and removed from further consideration. Abundance will be estimated based on the recovery of marked carcasses in each stream. The intent of calculating abundance estimates using two methods is to provide a more robust indication of adult abundance than estimates derived from a single method, and to assist in evaluating variability in abundance estimates from the two methods.
B | Describe behavioral and biological characteristics of adult chum salmon | 10/15/2006 | 5/31/2007 | Concluded | Jeffrey Johnson (Inactive) | 6/29/2006 4:02:52 PM
Description: Behavioral attributes, such as dates of likely entry into a stream and dates of peak abundance as indicated by the number of live fish observed, will be estimated. Biological characteristics, such as sex and age composition, and body size, will be summarized to describe the adult run in each stream during 2006.
C | DELIV | Chum adult abundance estimates | 5/31/2007 | Concluded | Jeffrey Johnson (Inactive) | 7/18/2006 1:39:23 PM
Description: Estimates of adult abundance will be calculated using 2 methods-- the area-under-the-curve method and recovery of marked carcasses. Behavioral and biological characteristics will be described for adults in Hardy Creek and Hamilton Springs. These data will be summarized and compiled in electronic files, and presented in the annual report. Behavioral attributes, such as dates of likely entry into a stream and dates of peak abundance as indicated by the number of live fish observed, will be estimated. Biological characteristics, such as sex and age composition, and body size, will be summarized to describe the adult run in each stream during 2006. |
