Title:
N: 157 - Adult Return and Transport Data-Umatilla Basin
Description:
Collection of adult return data for anadromous fish and bull trout sampled at Three Mile Falls Dam. ODFW as part of this project assists with the collection of all trap and haul data collected at Three Mile Falls Dam. In addition, CTUIR will post and update daily return totals on the bulletin board at the Three Mile Falls Dam east bank adult facility. Enumeration of all upstream migrant adults at Three Mile Falls Dam is either done by handling and sorting or by video monitoring. Data collected during adult trapping operations includes date, number of fish trapped, species, age and sex composition, as well as marks and disposition. Observations are also made of marine mammal damage, net marks, mechanical damage, and general fish condition. In addition, fork length and snouts are collected from a percentage of the fish with coded wire tags (CWT). During volitional migration periods, enumeration will occur by video camera. Data collected during volitional migration includes date, species, and number of fish moving upstream and downstream, jack or adult salmon, and wild or hatchery steelhead. General observations will be made such as time of movement and other species observed. Trap and haul operations are implemented during low flow periods which generally occurs from April through July. During low flow periods, salmon and steelhead are hauled upriver and released. Release locations are based on species composition, fisheries, and river conditions. Trap and haul activities also include the transportation of both salmon and steelhead to hatcheries for brood and outplanting. Data collected for each transport includes date, disposition, release location, transport unit, number and species hauled, pounds and species hauled (if applicable), and an estimate of mortality. Mortalities that occur during hauling operations are reported on the monthly and quarterly status reports.
WE Agreement Type:
Contracted
Deliverable Specification:
Data collected during trapping and video enumeration periods is entered into a database. This information is checked by the FPO Project Leader and the tribe's internal IT department for QA/QC. Information generated from this report is disseminated to co-managers as well as other projects within the basin. No analysis is conducted under this project.

8 Milestones
Sort Type Title Start End Status Modified By Modified Date
A EC Environmental compliance requirements complete 1/1/2024 12/31/2024 Concluded Jennifer Lord 11/16/2023 9:55:33 AM
Description: On-the-ground work associated with this work element cannot proceed until this milestone is complete. Milestone is complete when final documentation is received from BPA environmental compliance staff.
B PUBPROTOCOL Review, revise, and finalize study plan sample design protocol and methods in MonitoringResouces.org 1/1/2024 12/31/2024 Concluded Jennifer Lord 9/27/2023 7:21:16 AM
Description: The Study Plan's Sample Design, Protocol and Methods for this work element are stored at MonitoringResources.org and need to be completed (i.e., "Finalized" through MonitoringResources.org), preferably prior to data collection. Preparations for contract renewals must include reviewing any previously finalized Sample Designs, Protocols & Methods to ensure that they are consistent with how work will be done in any subsequent contract.
C Suggested Implement Study Plan 1/1/2024 12/31/2024 Concluded Jennifer Lord 9/27/2023 7:21:16 AM
Description: Implement the study plan's protocols and sample design consistent with the WE description and methods in the SOW. The start date of this milestone is used to set the completion date for the EC milestone.
D BackUp Secure data back-up 1/1/2024 12/31/2024 Concluded Jennifer Lord 9/27/2023 7:21:16 AM
Description: Minimum requirements: Hard copies of field sheets and original dataloggers secured against fire and flood. At least daily data back-up of electronic data on a separate hard drive. Secure cloud-based or off-site location data back-up to preclude catastrophic data loss at least weekly. More frequent cloud/off-site back-up is greatly encouraged. [Timing guidance: from beginning to end of contract]
E Upload Yearly upload of error-checked datasets 1/1/2024 12/31/2024 Concluded Jennifer Lord 9/27/2023 7:21:16 AM
Description: Upload datasets with associated metadata to a publicly accessible site each year as soon as they have been QA/QC checked. This generally happens within 6 months for direct field-to-database input, but may be longer if laboratory analysis is required (e.g., scale reading or genetic analyses). If data is not QA/QCed within 1 year, data must be made accessible with acknowledgement of QA/QC limitations. Periods for dataset collection should be no longer than a year, and coincide with the logical biology of the data collection, which may not be on a calendar year. Example of a dataset: redd counts for one species for one season for a particular brood year. Dataset upload requirements apply to both original and derived data, which should be at a level of quality suitable for release to resource co-managers to make decisions – not the rigor required as if you were going to use the data for a peer-reviewed publication.
F Collect data related to trapping operations 1/1/2024 12/31/2024 Concluded Jennifer Lord 11/16/2023 9:55:33 AM
Description: The project will provide transport information related to trap and haul operations on its monthly report. A full summary of transport data will be provided on the project's status (annual) report.
G Enumeration of adult migration 1/1/2024 12/31/2024 Concluded Jennifer Lord 11/16/2023 9:55:33 AM
Description: Daily enumeration will occur. Data will be provided to RME project managers and disseminated to fish managers in the basin in weekly emails.
H DELIV Produce accessible, error-checked datasets 12/31/2024 Concluded Jennifer Lord 11/16/2023 9:55:33 AM
