B | 176581 | 165 | Produce Environmental Compliance Documentation | All EC and permits obtained | Obtain all ESA and MMPA permits (or appropriate letters of compliance) and submit to BPA. Work with BPA EC lead to obtain NEPA and Section 106 compliance, if necessary. | $1,500 | 0.21% | 01/01/2018 | 07/12/2018 |
C | 176582 | 119 | Manage and Administer Projects | Routine contract administration | Project management includes preparing FY18 accruals, managing budgets and providing information to BPA as requested. | $2,500 | 0.35% | 01/01/2018 | 12/31/2018 |
D | 176583 | 157 | Collect/Generate/Validate Field and Lab Data | Nektonic species sampling-Plume & coastal OR & WA | Measure composition, distribution, and abundance of pelagic and nektonic species, including salmonids in 2018 in the Columbia River plume region.
NOAA will conduct one BPA-funded ocean survey in May and one in June 2018. This research will directly measure and quantify juvenile salmon abundance and distribution and provide samples to assess marine growth (both somatic and bioenergetic) as features that can be related to physical and biological processes in the Columbia River plume and associated ocean environment.
Important marine bio/physical conditions that will be measured and compared with salmonid metrics include: 1) oceanographic conditions, 2) phytoplankton standing stock, 3) collaborate with OSU researchers on indicators relating to juvenile salmon survival. | $359,000 | 50.85% | 01/01/2018 | 12/31/2018 |
E | 176584 | 162 | Analyze/Interpret Data | Assess the role of the estuary and plume on salmon growth & survival | Data will be collected to determine the following:
Through analytical assessment of biological features of juvenile salmon in and out of the Columbia River plume, assess the role of unique features of the Columbia River plume that affect salmon growth and survival.
NOAA will:
1) Continue to identify and refine the suite of estuary, plume and ocean indicators that best predict adult returns and survival and support the use of early warning indicators for listed interior Columbia Basin ESUs and DPS.
2) Examine the extent of coupling among estuarine, plume and early ocean habitats and marine survival of interior Columbia juvenile salmon and steelhead.
Tasks will include:
- Species of juvenile salmon will be confirmed from cruise sampling in 2018 (assuming the cruise is completed by the end of June), weighed and measured, and dissected (if warranted). All data will be entered and QA/QC.
- Identify genetic composition of juvenile Chinook salmon from cruises conducted in 2018; collect samples for analysis from salmon sampled in 2018.
- Identify temporal and spatial relationships among Insulin-like Growth Factor (IGF-1) levels as a metric of growth in juvenile salmon as they relate to early ocean survival.
- Examine food habits of salmon that may relate to connectivity to Columbia River estuary habitat.
- Integrate abundance, distribution and growth characteristics of juvenile salmon in the plume environment in relation to ocean condition in coastal marine waters of Oregon and Washington through correlational, spatial, multivariate, and generalized linear models.
- Continue to develop and refine indicators of juvenile salmon survival | $336,640 | 47.68% | 01/01/2018 | 12/31/2018 |
F | 176585 | 161 | Disseminate Raw/Summary Data and Results | Present Findings at Salmon Ocean Ecology Meeting | Results of our BPA-funded research that are related to oceanographic indicators and ocean growth and survival of juvenile Chinook salmon and steelhead will be presented. This workshop will bring together experts from different disciplines to exchange observations, results, models and ideas for understanding and integrating survival of Pacific salmon including those from the Columbia River Basin.

H | 176587 | 202 | Produce BiOp RPA Report | BiOp RPA Report for CY 2017 | Projects that have claimed that they support one or more RM&E RPAs (i.e., RPAs 50-73) under the FCRPS BiOp are required to report their results. To facilitate the summary of these results across the entire Columbia River Basin, and to provide more clarity as to the format required under the BiOp, these reports are required to be completed online. If desired, the required information can be prepared in MS Word, and pasted into Taurus. For more guidance see https://www.cbfish.org/Content/tutorials/Reporting_Guidance_BiOp_2013.pdf.
