At the heart of how BPA funds, monitors and reports on work performed under its Fish & Wildlife Program are work elements, metrics, and measures. In habitat work on the river tributaries, this work addresses each location's limiting factors. This area of CBFish allows you to explore these items in detail and understand their relation to one another.
A Limiting Factor is a condition that controls the size, abundance and distribution of an organism. As applied here, the Limiting Factors pertain to habitat for salmon and steelhead in the Columbia River basin. This list of Limiting Factors has been standardized by NOAA Fisheries and consists of Ecological Concern categories (example: water quality) and subcategories (example: temperature). Limiting Factors define "what" needs to be addressed; Work Elements define "how." Each Limiting Factor is associated with a specified set of Work Elements. For example, two Work Elements that address Water Quality: Temperature (8.1) are Install Fence (40) and Plant Vegetation (47).
