A158Mark/Tag AnimalsCollecting juvenile fall Chinook salmon by use of hook and lineThe monthly goal of the project is to radio-tag 20 juvenile fall Chinook salmon and to PIT tag as many juvenile fall Chinook salmon as as possible (i.e., ~40 fish/mo.) during October to February. Hook and line sampling will be conducted two weeks per month in vicinity of Lower Granite Dam forebay. A typical month of sampling will be conducted as described in the following example for October. Field equipment will be prepared on 3 October. On a daily basis from 4 October to 7 October, and from 10 October to 14 October, FWS field staff will drive to Lower Granite Dam, launch a boat, and hook and line sample. The location of each fish captured will be assigned a GPS location. At the end of each day, the juvenile fall Chinook salmon captured will be placed in net pens in the forebay of the dam. The remaining two weeks of October will be spent helping the USGS tagging crew process the fish in the net pens as well as hook and line sampling other locations in Lower Granite Reservoir to assess the abundance, location, and time of presence of juvenile fall Chinook salmon in areas in addition to the vicinity of Lower Granite Dam Forebay. A couple of days each month will be spent repairing field equipment. Chinook (O. tshawytscha) - Snake River Fall ESU (Threatened)
B162Analyze/Interpret DataDescribe location and time of presence of fall Chinook salmon juvenilesData will be proofed after the hook and line sampling has been completed in February. We will use the GPS locations to describe the location of juvenile fall Chinook salmon rearing in Lower Granite Reservoir. We will calculate catch per unit effort by month to describe time of presence. Chinook (O. tshawytscha) - Snake River Fall ESU (Threatened)
C132Produce Progress (Annual) ReportAnnual reportPrepare technical report of research findings from field work and analyses conducted during the winter of 2004-05. Report will describe methods, data summaries, and results of statistical analyses. Results will be discussed in terms of their relevance to winter passage of fish that would otherwise pass through the hydrosystem undetected. The report will be a joint effort with the U.S. Geological Survey and Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, which are study cooperators.
