A160Create/Manage/Maintain DatabaseHanford Reach fall chinook spawning habitat databaseWe will manage and maintain the Hanford Reach database. The database contains all of the information from the piezometers installed in the Hanford Reach over the previous four years. Information on water temperature, vertical gradient, geomorphic type, water levels, etc. are contained in the database. The database is used to interpret and analyze data. Continual QA/QC is conducted to catch mistakes, and periodic updates to the database are needed.
B162Analyze/Interpret DataFall chinook redd density data analysisFall Chinook salmon redd densities will be interpreted and analyzed relative to the physical habitat data previously collected. Hypothesis testing will be conducted over a range of issues (e.g., Ho: there is no difference in riverbed temperatures in spawning and non-spawning areas, H1: riverbed temperatures within spawning sites are warmer or cooler than non-spawning sites). Other inquires will look at differences in vertical gradients, substrate permeability, and specific discharge between spawning and non-spawning areas, as well as between study areas that are of different geomorphic type. Existing bathymetric data will be added to existing spawning habitat model and model will be re-run. Spawning habitat predictions will be developed for the new areas.Chinook (O. tshawytscha) - Snake River Fall ESU (Threatened)
C183Produce Journal ArticleFinal reportingPrepare final technical report covering the scientific findings for the project. The final technical report will consist of a series of chapters that describe significant findings from each of the major topic areas (i.e., geomorphic controls on spawning site selection, spawning habitat model, groundwater-surface water interactions in spawning and non-spawning locations, effects of hydropower operations on groundwater - surface water interactions, redd capacity for the Hanford Reach, and implications of Hanford Reach findings to rebuilding efforts in the Snake River Basin). In addition to the individual chapters, the report will also include an introduction that describes the context in which the study was completed, as well as a conclusion/summary section that integrates the results across all chapters. Appendices will be included where necessary to provide large amounts of data, extended descriptions of methods, or other items that require more space to describe. The final report and appendices will be uploaded to the BPA website. It is expected that upon completion of the chapters, they will be submitted to journals for possible publication as peer-reviewed articles. Likely journals include the Transactions of the American Fisheries Society, North Am. Journal of Fisheries Management, Rivers Research, and Environmental Management. Each journal submission will be reviewed and revised, and submitted for publication.Chinook (O. tshawytscha) - Snake River Fall ESU (Threatened)
